This week (16th-22nd October 2023)

This weekend is a Work Weekend. Due to the weather forecast there has been a change of plan: On Saturday we will be working at Kemsley Down and on Sunday we will be at Sittingbourne Viaduct station.

There is a lot happening at Sittingbourne Viaduct – last week half of the wooden sleeper-built platform was dismantled and the supports for the new wider & taller platform constructed.

On Wednesday this week (sorry this update is so late), Network Rail volunteers, from the Southern Region Commercial Team, have tidied up the station and used some of the platform sleepers to improve the step-free access.

The concrete components for the platform are being delivered next week but there is more work to do to prepare for it.

Work continues as usual for the Carriage & Wagon at Kemsley Down on Saturday.

If you are interested in volunteering at the Railway, feel free to turn up at Sittingbourne Viaduct station on Sunday and we’ll find you a job to do!

If you would like to help out on Saturday, email info@sklr.net and we’ll arrange for you to be collected from Kemsley Paper Mill Car Park or Sittingbourne Viaduct station by car.

The old platform has been removed and the new piers for the platform constructed

The step-free access path bushes have been cut back by the Network Rail team.

The path has now been lined with redundant sleepers from the platform and looks much more attractive and welcoming.

Santa Specials

Tickets are on sale now for the 11am & 2pm trains – some trains are close to or are full. The 12pm & 3pm trains go on sale on 1st November but that’s after groups, such as Beavers, have been booked onto the train so there may be fewer seats available than appears online.
