Footplate Experience Courses
We will be holding two special sessions on Saturday 20th September for one-on-one instruction on how to fire and drive steam locomotive ‘Premier’. These are trial sessions ahead of next year’s relaunch of the courses.
The participant and a guest will be taken to Kemsley Down for a cup of tea and a briefing before the participant works with the fireman on managing the fire and producing enough steam to run the engine, then the driver will show them how to drive the locomotive, and after a test run or two, you will then take a train of empty coaches to Sittingbourne Viaduct station where your very own passengers board the train. You will drive the train to Kemsley Down and enjoy a celebratory lunch with your guests before heading back to Sittingbourne Viaduct at the end of your session.
There will be just two sessions – 10am and 2pm – and it costs £300 for the participant and one guest. The further guests cost £7.50 each, which includes the rail fare and lunch.
We hope to provide more sessions next year.
