This week (27th March – 2nd April 2023)

This weekend is a Work Weekend

The Railway is closed until Good Friday (7th April) but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything going on!

This weekend is the last of our fortnightly Winter Work Weekends.

This work will be carried out as follows:

    • Saturday 1st AprilWork Weekend – 10am to 4pm at Sittingbourne Viaduct station where we have to re-erect the signal post and carry out more work to the platform in preparation for reopening to the public next Friday
    • Sunday 2nd AprilWork Weekend – 10am to 4pm at Kemsley Down – numerous jobs to prepare the site for reopening to the public next Friday – email info@sklr.net to arrange access.

You will need to be a member to work on the Railway, for insurance reasons, and we can process this at the Railway. Membership has its perks too – free travel on the Railway during the season and discounts to Steam & Beer and Santa Specials plus there’s our in-house magazine ‘The New Bogie’.

If you’re coming along to help please read the tips on this page before you leave home: Work Weekends page

Easter Weekend – we’re back!

Trains will be running from 11.30am until 4pm all four days of the bank holiday weekend and all hauled by our award-winning steam locomotive ‘Premier’.

There will be flowers to pot and take home with you on Good Friday, this free activity will take place at Kemsley Down.

We are running a full service on Saturday from 11.30am, this is one of the few Saturdays we are running trains this year because, traditionally number have been very low, so let’s buck the trend!

There will be a free Easter Egg Hunt at Kemsley Down on Easter Sunday.

You can’t book steps in advance – just turn up 15 minutes before departure time to buy your tickets at the ticket office and you’ll be good to go!

Trains depart Sittingbourne Viaduct station at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm (there is no 1pm train)

Trains depart Kemsley Down station at 12.05pm, 1.35pm, 2.35pm, 3.,35pm & 4.45pm (there is a long wait between the 12.05pm and 1.35pm trains)

Return fares this Season are:

Please check our website, Facebook Page or Twitter (@SandKLR) before you leave home to make sure everything’s going to plan. Also, please note that there are roadworks on the A249/M2 interchange which often closes the A249 between the M2/A249 roundabout and Sittingbourne – use real time journey planners, such as Google Maps, to check your route – our car park is at ME10 2XD or on what3words we are: format.fits.trains

More volunteers urgently needed

As a new Season begins, we are in need of new volunteers in catering, guards and assistant station masters – no experience necessary as full training will be given.

These roles are public-facing and offer good work experience for anyone wanting to get into a retail career or if you just want to make people happy!

All working volunteers must also be members of the Railway, we will discuss this with you when you come along for an initial meeting. For operational roles you must be over 16 or 18 years of age (depending on the role). Some roles may require a medical, this will be decided by our Railway Doctor. You must be able to commit to a number of turns each year and be able to work the full hours of those turns.
